Art can become the change you want to see in this world when it goes beyond personal concerns and constraints and becomes holistically collaborative, when it becomes a common intention shared by artists who care and act for that change.
Yes, I am hoping that some day soon, my blog entries will be quotable quotes that inspire the world! Narcissism may be a personal constraint, but what’s happening with OQ nowadays is so exciting that I am up at four in the morning writing this article out. We shall introduce you to the new team soon enough. But first, a lowdown on what has been happening since the last lament of the dilettante –
A lot of people and organizations are feeding off of the global culture of raising creative consciousness in communities in congruence with their own brand value. Basically – sit down, cause this might hit you like a rock – it’s not just about making money anymore and that has conversely made it easier to make money. We’ll come back to this once you’ve chewed on it a little and maybe broken down the complex proteins a bit, but one of the first places to take the initiative and make it real is Malaka Spice!
It’s unlikely that you haven’t heard of this place and its crazily fantastic Southeast Asian cuisine if you live in Pune – it is quite the landmark of Lane 5, Koregaon Park. And now it’s working with OQ. Every Wednesday, we set up shop between 4 and 7 – and basically drive a wedge between people and boredom & disengagement.
Our first project here is a jugalbandi between visual art and live music. What that means is – well, come down, find out – it’s pretty cool what we do with Malaka, if we do say so ourselves!
And if you are an artist of any kind (you make dreamcatchers or write epic poetry, sing Carnatic or dance like a dream) get in touch, we will find a way for you to share your process and art on our platform.
And while we engage the community, we also provide training for the performers and troubadours out there. Whether it is playwrighting or outright stagework or just creating space to share stories and generate meaningful content – it’s all happening with OQ. The schedule for September is as follows:
OQ at Artsphere, (North Court, above Cafe Columbia, near Jogger’s park, Kalyani Nagar)
8 sessions of 2 hours each open to anyone 16 years and over (Monday and Friday – 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM)
4 sessions of 1 hour each for kids (Tuesdays)
Theatre for girls, women inclusive of female-identified people and transwomen at Open Space (Hermes Vishal, Lane 7, Koregaon Park)
Four weekends starting 7th September
Saturday: 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Also on the anvil in the next two months:
- Story-telling performances
- Concept-photography and live stories
- A play in September
- Bachelor Auction – our musical comedy which goes to rehearsal in October
There was never a better time to get involved with OQ. And we couldn’t be happier.
To the stage! Salut!
